New 2019-T@G 6 Wide Modifications

We picked up our new 2019 T&G this spring. After ready many of the great posts and awesome modifications many of you have done..we have jumped in and started our mods.

• Raised the Norcold Fridge 1/16" so the track misses the rubber seal around the hatch door.
• Added hydraulic lifters to under bed storage
• Added lift handles to bed storage
• Added 2 shelves under sink for storage organization
• Added handles to sink doors to hang dish towels
• Added paper towel holder
• Added propane splitter to attach and use a portable BBQ
• Made and added wind guard for stove (this works great)
• Made and added window shades to door windows
• Working on adding Jackit for bike storage, Will post when done
• Working on HD Antenna holder, Will post when done

Love these. Thanks for posting. Can you share some specific details like what hydraulic struts you used (lb rating, length, etc.) and what parts you used for the propane splitter? Thanks again.

I have added the Video shortcut for the "How To" from which I borrowed the idea. I tried the 20" strut and found that it did not lift the cover high enough and was in the way. I ended up using a 23" strut with 79lbs of pressure. It works great and is out of the way. We added a 2" foam topper to the bed and this strut holds everything up.

I have separated the propane connection and taken a picture of the part that we purchased. It was about $70cdn. We bought a 8 foot hose for the BBQ, that was about $35 cdn.
I have added the picture of the hose end that attaches to the splitter.

I added the Jackit Bike rack, Very easy to put up and take down bikes. Bikes are very secure during transportation. Installation of system took about 30 minutes.

I added a holder for the stabilizer crank for quick and easy access. Used PVC pipe, cut a slot in the side about 2" down, to stop it from turning, attached it to the vertical support with 2 tie wraps.

For the strut, what did you use to keep the doors closed?

There is a balance point when opened that it stays up, once I pulled to close, the weight of the mattress, bedding, pillows lowers the door nicely.

I put a PVC cap on mine to keep the crank handle from bouncing out.

Has anyone else experienced the LOSS or breakage of the rubber grommets that are suppose to the hold the grill in place over the stove??..Rubber near heat!!..they lasted two weekends before they fell apart.

I made these from aluminum this weekend. We are going on a two week trip, I will see how they last. Have to better than rubber..:)

Doubt many folks can fabricate their own bushings. You can get replacement bushings at Lowes in the hardware area for not much for just a few. Had to replace mine too.

Mine ripped in half when cleaning the stove. @HellFish were the "replacements" in the drawers or hanging on the wall? Do you know the size offhand?

I quickly got tired of those silicone rubbers on the stove and came up with my usual trailer park fix.

I just took my angle grinder and made a couple of shallow notches on the outside of the stove grate legs. No need for any kind of bushings now. It's been that way for over a year without incident. It also stays put and doesn't wander around anymore. For those who don't have an angle grinder, a bit of time with a 3 corner file would accomplish the same thing.

I called up the manufacturer of the unit (I forget who right now) and they sent me a bag of them for free. They were upgraded ones are hard rubber, almost a bakelite material.

Just finished a 4800km trip. Bushings worked well. Everything stayed in place, spread the two tongs of the grill that go into the holes about 1/16" and outward pressure helps keep all in place.
If some of you are are not handy and any of the great suggestions from contributors noted above, that all seem to work to hold the grill in place, I would make some of these for you.

A small fee of $10 for material and labour, plus the cost of snail mail shipping to wherever you may be, I will send two. I have not made them yet, but if there is interest, I will make some.

After a number of short lived replacements and substitutes for those stove grommets I took a different approach and added sleeves to the legs of the grate. A short piece of heat shrink tube followed by a longer piece of a self sealing type made a nice tapered plug that fits in the hole in the stove nicely.

We all reach for the resources on hand or nearby.

Some TaB owners called Elsie at nuCamp, but that was prior to the current parts ordering process.

@Jay, We were putting the hydraulic lifters to under bed storage and it caused the doors to shift. I noticed you had 3 hinges on seam. Do you remember the specifics on those hinges. Also, did you remove the three hinges that

Sheilaarold, The hinges are from Home Depot 90 Degree Surface Mount Hidden Spring, around $5 cdn. Yes, I too had the issue of the doors shifting about 1/4" towards the entry doors. I did remove the stock hinges. Since the storage doors have lots of edge to sit on, I did trim about 3/8" to 1/2" off the man EMTRY side of the storage cover. Sorry, I did not mention that.

I've gone through several grommets. I get them from Lowes. Now I keep a Ziploc bag full of them as backup.

Its a shame that they have not come up with a better permanent fix for this very common issue with heat and rubber..I'm not an engineer but I know that combination doesn't work..:)

I agree with you but will add that in my case, the 2 "legs" that have the grommets on them also exhibited significant problem with wear-through from vibration as well as heat. My own fix posted above was to simply eliminate them. Problem solved...

No, I dont. I just took one of the old ones with me and and fit it by sight. The one I bought looks like the amazon type that Sharon_is_SAM posted above.

I realize it's been a couple years since you posted this, but do you happen to know which hydraulic lifters you installed? I tried to do some searching, but I couldn't find a place where I could search by length.

Search the forum for gas lifters. You'll find the info you need including links. Most of us used 80# which is probably minimum with stock mattresses
