Under bed storage?

Just wondering what T@G owners typically store under the bed. With only 3.5 inches headroom, there doesn't seem to be very many items that would fit there. Even a roll of toilet paper would be squished a bit. 5.5 inches would have been ideal, although that would men 2 inches less headroom in the camper. Most flat plastic containers, I think, are more than 3.5 inches high. Hmmm. My wife says clothing and bedding. But I'm more tool minded.

    I installed the pneumatic struts on my underbed storage area to make it easier to access. Even with that, I go in there so rarely that I sometime open it just to see what's in there. I'd be interested to hear from folks who say they use that space (as in access it) frequently.

    We store tools, lights (string, solar, etc), power-cords, backup tarp, duct tape, fuses, drill with bit for levelers, lug wrench, axe, rope, hammock, air-chair, and portable air-chair stand. Used to store my HF solar panels but since building my much better solar suitcase, the panels no longer fit. I would never store a liquid of any kind as a problem with a liquid could lead to mold issues.

    5W T@g. I access mine so frequently, i added pneumatic lifts to hold them open. I store my 30 Amp cord + 50 and 15 amp adapters. A Renogi solar suitcase, water hose and filter in a plastic bag and a gray water hose in a plastic bag.. Tarp and poles for a makeshift awning over the kitchen. A wheel lock. 3 lb hammer and a small crowbar for pulling tent pegs. I added two wooden dividers to each side to help me organize and separate. Also carry a couple of short 4 by 4s and a screw type jack. And a socket/breaker bar for the lug nuts. Toilet paper and first aid kit go in the headboard. I've considered taking the floor panels off and raising everything up a couple more inches but decided against it. Not because of the loss of headroom; I'm concerned it will be harder to get in and out.

    @ras I’m am curious how you fit the solar suitcase. Did you remove the wooden dividers that came stock rearrange them?

    There was only a center divider in our 2017 Tag when we bought it used. I installed two 1 by 4 dividers in each side. I placed one to hold the solar suitcase and had room for a couple of short 4 by 4s in the same section. I used a Kreg pocket hole tool to mount the 1 by 4 dividers in place, I'll take some pics.

    Rebuilding the underbed storage with 1 x 6's was the first thing that I did and the best thing. I can fit shoe box store bins that are labeled for tools, backpacks, first aid, heater, battery powered fans, camp stove, towels, hiking boots, water shoes, and everything else we need and keep packed in there.

    How exactly did you remove the 2x4's? I haven't yet seen our T@G but would be interested in possibly replacing them with 2x6. Can you post a bit of the process?

    1 by 4 or 1 by 6 is sufficient. 2 by whatever only add weight and take up twice as much space. You don't need more structural integrity than a 1 by 4 or 1 by 6 can provide..

    The 1x4 are held in place by screews in pocket holes. The are robertson heads (no2 square heads.

    Fairly easy to pull appart. Did not replace them, but had to pull tgem out cause I wanted to install a usb port to our head board in our 2017 T@G and take currents from the back.

    Pulled the screws out and pulled each board and cut them length wise to match. I was then able to add cross supports exactly where I wanted them. And screwed back in in the EXACT spot. I bought a Kreg Pocket hole jig (cheapest one to help conceal the screws). Total cost under $100. I have plastic shoe boxes to hold all the supplies (had those in advance so that I could place all the cross sections so that they fit.) First aid, tools, hiking backpacks, heater, spare electrical cord, water hose, bike tool kits, hiking boots, wet shoes, towels, blow drier, hammock and even our old coleman stove fits under the bed. I am an extreme organizer and not a carpenter and the build took me 1 day in the garage while my husband was at work. Now I can find any item in seconds. IKEA SKUBB boxes fit perfectly and we use those in the cabinets next to the television for clothes.

    We lost about 1 1/2 - 2 inches of head room but the storage gain was so worth that. The most complicated piece was the strip by the door. I had to pry off the finished plywood and reuse it for integrity so it matched. The hinged piece fit right back on top. I used some packing styrofoam on top of the water tank so it was still snug in the space.

    Here are the photos that I took while doing the project. I just marked every board and cut to same length. Again, I am comfortable with tools but no carpenter. And I did it all without my husbands help one day when he was at work. Surprise

    If you're looking for containers to put tools in..go to Michael's...some neat storage craft containers. ...Around $5.00 each..an electric griddle was stored in our under bed storage area.

    We have a two burner propane stove under there.

    Keep it in case we would need to cook under a shelter because of weather or bugs!

    This is what I used on my 5W. One toward the center of each side. They work well with mattress in place.
