Subaru Forrester as a Tow Vehicle for TAG XL

Love to save some gas money. At the tow limits. Anyone use one?

    We tow our xl with Subaru assent. We carry a lot of weight on out tongue that even the Outback couldn’t handle. If you keep everything light you might do fine.

    You really don’t want to max out on tow weights. Sure, you may be able to tow on the flat, but can you stop or maneuver suddenly?

    I used to tow my Boondock Xl with a 2017 Outback. Worked OK but the RPMs were always a bit high and gas mileage took a huge nosedive (and I live 8n the flattish terrain of Iowa). That Subaru ended up saving my kids and my lives. Upgraded to an Ascent and it tows so much better. Hardly know it's there. Took it through the mountains to Gettysburg and it just purred along.

    You don't specify what year your Fozzie is, but the limit is 1,500 lbs (150 lbs. tongue weight) unless you're sporting a '23 Wilderness Edition, which is 3,000 lbs.

    I used to tow with a 2011 forester that had a rating of 2,400. It did the job, but it was pretty slow. I also felt like it was taking a toll on the transmission.

    I am just not thinking the cvt transmission will be happy about it.

    We tow our T@G with a 2013 Forester. The 2014-present are rated to tow way less than ours. It works but we certainly won't be heading to the mountains anytime soon. Our next car will have a bigger engine and higher tow rating. (Unfortunately more $$)

    There are a few discussions on the Subaru Forester forum about CVT transmissions and towing. Our 2.5 liter Outback seems to handle the T&G just fine.

    Yep; my Outback has no trouble towing my T@G either, aside from the fuel economy going right into the toilet...

    Does anyone know when brakes were added to the T@Gs? Some used ones have them and some don’t!

    I believe they became standard with the 2018 models.

    My 2018 5 wide standard does not have brakes. It falls below the weight requirement.
