Suggestions on Which Solar Charger

After doing some searching through the Forum I've only found one name of charger. Victron SmartSolar Charge Controller but is there another controller you folks are using?

I'm new to boondocking but I know I would like to have the ability. Currently there are two six volt golf cart batteries on board from the previous owner which to me would have been one of my first upgrades anyway. There doesn't appear to be a controller on my camper for the moment and I would like to be able to use solar panels at some point. I do have the pre-wired Sam connector in the side the battery cover on the front of my unit.

Any other controllers?

@Somemedic, for our initial foray into solar, we just purchased a cheap, Renogy PWM solar controller, but we already had a Victron battery monitor hardwired per the factory that acts as our display. The MPPT Victron charge controllers are an easy installation and the Smart models allow you to access the charging info from your smartphone so no additional display is needed unlike the PWM that has no built in display.

Morningstar makes an extensive line of controllers for all size systems. I've been using a SunSaver 10L model for ~8years.

When you buy the solar panels most will offer a matching controller from the manufacturer. I’d use it so there wouldn’t be any issues with the warranty. There are some differences, waterproof or not, PWM or MPPT.

Finally pulled the trigger and grabbed a Rover Li30amp. I should be able to get 400w of panels at 12v if need be. That should keep the lights on awhile.

I think that with 400 w with a T@G, you will be able to charge the battery with the light of a full moon!
