Park Closings...

With a National Emergency just declared, wondering how this might affect public campground closures; pal of mine is a Ranger at a state park here in Va., called him a few minutes ago & he'd just finished a conference call, good to go so far, no closings, maybe some indoor interpretive events depending,...any other states closing or making changes? Glad we have some spots to go to in the event of future closings...

I've been asking myself the same thing. As is now the norm, many are watching the skies for the "Goodrich" blimp. As I always do, whatever way it goes, I'll muddle on as best I can.

Thanks @Frogger for sharing some inside info. We are halfway between Aspen and Vail here in Colorado, Covid-19 has taken all the oxygen out of what little atmosphere we have here. My hat is off to the folks keeping our nations treasures open. Snow is melting fast, looking forward to a glorious camping season away from people...lol
WilliamA this was what I saw from where I stood yesterday looking down the toilet paper aisle at the local supermarket... :o

Good Gumby they cleaned that place out...appears to be happening a lot, our local Kroger food store had to take the Purell wipe stations used to clean cart handles out from the vestibule & put 'em behind the registers, people were stealing the rolls out of 'em...I grew up on soap & water, plan to continue tradition...

@Frogger ...New Mexico State Parks are not allowing overnights in their Parks...Alabama is OPEN..and supposedly the national park campgrounds are okay too..I would double check before heading to one first...

Very interesting...hummm...why toilet paper? This whole thing reminds me of the story of “the emperors new clothes”. Look it up if you don’t know it. We didn’t worry about bird flu, SARS, MERS, etc. so?

Why are there corkscrews in the TP isle? :s
Looks about the same here in Dirty Jersey, even the big box club stores are getting cleaned out daily.

For the Quarantini's. I personally did a specific gravity test of my 6 gallon batch of blended semi-dry quarantini this morning. At 1.052 it's looking like I'll be ready for most eventualities within a couple weeks. We've been alcohol-swabbing hands for days. It's time to de-nature the internals. Used modestly and in conjunction with a healthy dose of off-grid camping is a good plan A.

For those staying home and watching the stock market, it should dull a bit of that pain as well...

Went by Wally Wild this morning to pick up a head of cabbage & some hot sauce, managed to score a 4 pack of Charmin Crapper Gold for the wife...plenty of E&J brandy, some Patron, bout 10 Yuenglings, & found an unopened bottle of Paddy Irish whiskey in a cedar wardrobe where I store camping gear; been a good Monday so far...

Remember everyone, all things in moderation! Of course one must dose pursuant to the threat. Happy folks are less likely to be jerks.

Even if the Parks are open, all the ancillary businesses might be closed. Be prepared. Especially in the West now.

When it’s going to get interesting is when you’re about halfway through your trip and one of your destination states closes it’s state parks where you have a bunch of reservations!

I seldom make reservations. The only time I do is midsummer at the local state parks. I never reserve while on the road.

Florida just sent out voicemail confirming state parks closed thru 15 May. My current reservations have all been automatically cancelled. A little bummed, but no big deal in the scheme of things I suppose.

Texas State Parks just announced they are closing Park Headquarters, visitor centers and park stores. Equipment rentals and interpretive programs are suspended. The parks will remain open. Cash transactions are suspended. Park visitors will need to use self-pay, online and credit cards. Changes are in effect into the foreseeable future.

Here’s a pretty good strategy. The governor of Alabama has closed all public and private beaches. Alabama state park camping has not closed but all activities and facilities are closed...now including beach access. But if they close the campground like Florida they would have to refund your deposit which Florida is. This way you either stay around your camper or cancel, in which case they get to keep your deposit...pretty shrewd..

Pretty much the same for Virginia Mike, staff will continue clean showers/crapper more often, can still pitch a tent or back in a camper... https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/covid-19-update?utm_medium=email&utm_source=enewsletter&utm_campaign=eNews031820&utm_content=covid_update_button
