How to attach jpeg files to a post

I have several pictures stored on my computer (resized per your specifications) that I want to attach to a new post. When I click on the file icon and select the files I want, they display on the bottom of my post as simply a file name, and not the actual picture. If I click on the photo icon, it just posts the html. How did I get my photos to display? Thanks.

    @GigHarborTom, when I enter a photo, it initially displays as a file. It should save and display as a photo when you click “Post Comment.

    Tom, while you are in your "comment" window, you can also simply drag the photo from the desktop into the comment window. Make sure to have the cursor where you want the photo.
