Installing a backup camera

I purchased a wireless backup camera for the trailer with the intent of patching power license plate light. The camera is fairly substantial weight wise and a bit larger than I imagined it would be. I’m afraid it would cover up too much of the license plate if mounted to the plate screws.

Other than decals, has anyone mounted anything to the hatch skin? If so how did you do it? I’m contemplating making a mounting plate for it, extending above the hatch mounted license plate, attached with rivets and with some sort of outdoor grade double stick tape as a backup.

    I installed a backup camera with magnets and wired to the jack inside the galley. This continues to work exactly as planned. After some use, I feel the overall benefits may be marginal. Please see my post below.

    I took a different approach that's available thru Costco the Type S Solar Powered HD Quick-Connect Wireless Backup Camera. No drilling no wires no hassle unless your into that sorts thing. Took 5 minutes just attaches to the 2 screws on license plate frame.

    If I was starting over, that might be my approach. Costco was not on sale when I was looking. Some of the Costco reviews in the past were not up to my confidence level.

    Thought about something like that but was concerned about losing the light to my license plate (couldn’t find one with lights) as well as how well that size of antenna would stay connected (especially at speed).

    I respect your opinion but believe that the majority of people who are happy with their purchases don't take the time to write favorable reviews. I too am guilty of not finding the time to write a review for this product. Until the pandemic I've been busy having fun with my TAG Boondock.

    So my plan to make a license plate adapter bracket died when I finally got back to my storage location to look at it. The 2018 Boondock xl has a beautiful raised nucamp logo above the door mounted license plate (and I don’t want to lose it). I noticed three red lights above the galley hinge and believe they’re 12v, so I’m thinking of pulling the center one and making it my camera location. Should be a simple flat adapter plate.

    The camera I purchased was AMTIFO HD 960P Digital Wireless Backup Camera from Amazon. Will post in a few weeks when I finally get it installed.
