T@G vs T@G XL.....stability
Seriously considering the NuCamp T@G Boondock for our short and long distance excursions. Our trip next summer will take us from our home in Labrador, Canada (only 2 hrs on gravel now after significant paving over the last 8 years), to South Dakota and then on to Edmonton, Alberta and then all the way back home. We’re not to concerned about additional storage that the wider XL offers, but what I am considering is the added stability on the highway with the wider axle. Can anyone comment on whether or not the XL gives greater stability on th road?

not a factorLike Beaky said, not a factor. The difference would be imperceptible. Wind resistance and drag, ya... more with the XL. Bigger factors for sway would be hitch height, loading and tire pressure with loading probably being the biggest factor.

We tow our T@G XL w/a GMC Canyon and do not notice it at all. Unless you look in the rearview mirror and jump when you notice how close that idiot behind you is...

I've had the same phenomena too and I have a 2012 RAV4 4 cylinder. I have never experienced any unusual sway in strong winds. Going up a hill I do experience the extra weight. Never has dropped me down too slow, but will drop two gears at times and push RPMs up near 5k for a minute or so.

Well, if anything, we’d go with the XL for the microwave.

With the use of a microwave, a lot depends on where you intend to camp and if you will have a generator. My camping has been about 85% without 120 volt access/use.

I rented a 5 wide and towed from Toronto to Halifax a few summers ago over 10 days, my wife and I decided to buy the XL for interior space. We towed the XL from Toronto to Tampa Florida and back. Didn't notice any tow difference. No real weight difference. Both stayed straight on the road with no sway.

@csonni If you get the T@G 2021 models, they all have microwaves. I would also suggest looking in this forum for information about adding a slide out shelf and fridge if you don't want to use the Yeti as your primary refrigerator.

When we originally purchased our 2017 we sat inside both...we purchased the XL because of the extra interior room...nice to have when it's raining outside and you haven't set up a tent...overbite stats we usually didn't set up the tent

Thanks for the comments. We have a sale pending with a 2020 T@G XL Boondock Lite. I think the extra room is probably a key for us, too.
