We're Linda and Don. She from Pine Mountain, Georgia (Callaway Gardens) and me from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. We did a two-week, 2000-mile Utah/Colorado/Arizona/New Mexico trip with friends in their camper back in October and caught the bug. It's an easy step from backpacking and boat camping.

We found an immaculately maintained 2017 T@G and put an end to the drought that had parched the Mississippi Gulf Coast for the last few months. The rain has kept us off the road, but it's given us time to learn about the hardware, tinker with maintenance and modifications, and add gadgets and gizmos. So, we're already having big fun without even leaving home. We'll pull it with a 2.5 liter Subaru Outback. It worked nicely on the 60-mile trip bringing the trailer to Mississippi.

Mods and such to date:

  • 100-AH LiFePo battery (Vestwoods, reasonably priced, low-temp charge protection, 5-year replacement warranty, Bluetooth monitoring app). Required larger battery box.
  • 100-W Renogy suitcase solar panel plus various cables and 12-V adapters
  • Lifting straps and hidden hinges for floorboard storage
  • Kelty Backroad awning
  • New vinyl trim over the roof edge strips.
  • Bug fuzz for the windows (provided without charge by the nice folks at NuCamp)
  • 30>15A adapter to avoid hauling the heavy 30-A cord
  • Leveling jack holder in tongue box
  • Sorted out the many mysteries and vagaries of the Jensen sound system and television, figure out how to integrate phones and computers
  • New USB 3.0 Quick Charge plugs (today's rainy day project)
  • A nifty little eyebrow for the galley light to prevent blinding the chef, made from a piece of plastic jug and a rubber band. (The X-Acto knife wound is healing nicely.)

Future projects, probable and possible:

  • PWM controller for the Fantastic Fan
  • WilliamA's water tank input mod
  • Mandy mod for behind-the-tv storage
  • 5-pound LP tank
  • Electric brake controller
  • Rotate galley cabinet handles 90 degrees, so they work as dishtowel holders
  • Lifting struts for under-floor storage panels
  • Additional tail/brake lights mounted high on galley hatch
  • Improving the air conditioner condenser-side airflow. There has to be a better way.

We've found many wonderful ideas and a wealth of good advice in the archives here. This is one of the most useful, entertaining, and civil discussion forums either of us has used. Our thanks to all who contribute. And to the admins who maintain and guide it.
