US Route 2 suggestions? Must see/fun items from WA to MI?

We're looking to go cross country this summer and wanted to spend a lot less time on the interstates. So, we're seeking destinations along what Road Trip USA calls "the road to nowhere." Please share any highlights of unusual and fun opportunities/experiences this route might offer. Also, we're looking for any "off the beaten path" ideas for rustic camping places.

@ras Thanks for your prompt reply. Looks like the International Peace Garden is right next to the International music camp on rt 43.... We've been to the Peace Arch Park at Blaine WA, didn't know of the Peace Garden. Thanks!

Lots of touristy kitsch on US-2 in Michigan's Upper Penninsula, but one thing not to be missed is eating a traditional Cornish pasty at Lehto's Pasties, on US-2 about five miles west of St. Ignace near Gros Cap Road...   The best in the north.

Also, while not strictly on Rte 2, while in St. Ignace you might consider taking the ferry over to Mackinac (pronounced "MACK-in-aw") Island for a visit. Lots of history there.

@The_Rigger, thanks for the culinary tips! Thoughts of traditional Cornish pasty will keep us going through any challenges that may arise on our journey. I seem to recall one of your posts featuring some oversize cinnamon rolls...  is that place in St. Ignace also?
