Newbie-Honda EU2200i Generator

Hello Everyone,

I have a 2020 T@g Boondock Lite. I found a really good deal in a Honda EU2200i generator.

I live in Texas and it can get pretty hot and humid here, during the summer months. I’m looking for a quality, well made generator that will run the Haier air conditioner, that came installed, in the camper. Do you guys think the Honda EU2200i would suffice for the task at hand?

Thank you so much for taking the time to help a new guy out. I really appreciate your help.

Blake

    Hi Blake,
Works perfectly on my 2019 Boondock Edge XL. I'm running mine on propane (retrofit Hutch Mountain) which is supposed to be less powerful than gasoline. Still does fine. Haven't tested for simultaneous microwave use but I'm not concerned about that.

Thank you so much! My 5 wide doesn’t have a microwave, so that doesn’t apply to me. I really just need to run the air conditioner. I’ll go pick up the generator tomorrow. Thanks again for your help!

I have a Honda EU2000i. Paid $700-new (10 years ago). Run non-ethanol gas in it & Amsoil 10W-30 oil. Runs excellent. Runs everything in my T@G, except the microwave—-which I never use. I rather use solar though. But I also use a portable vacuum cleaner with the Honda.

Tag75605, I'm in Texas as well. During the summer we camp in the State Parks with full hook-ups. Have to have that AC.

Heading for Winthrop in eastern WA Monday. Might be trying out that AC for the first time.

Thanks Everyone! All of you are so helpful. I went to the store to purchase the Honda 2200, this morning. Unfortunately, they sold the three they had on the shelf, yesterday, before I could make it in at 10:30, this morning. I ordered one off of Amazon.

Apparently, they new Honda 2200, I ordered, has some sort of a carbon monoxide sensor built in to it. They claim it will shut off automatically, if the levels get too high. If it works properly, that will be a nice additional safety feature. That being said, I’m not going to take any chances with carbon monoxide, safety sensor, or not. It should be here in about a week.

Thanks again for helping a new guy stay cool in the hot Texas heat.

    Blake.

We're considering the Honda EU2200i as well. Here in Canada they're $1429 and $1529 plus $90 freight charges to our dealer (we're remote). $100 more for the 30 amp. Is that necessary? I would think the 30 amp unit connects to the T@G without any adapter, correct?

You are correct csonni. No adapter needed.

I use an earlier version of this inverter generator from Northern Tool https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200788692_200788692 Not quite as quiet as the Honda (52db instead of 48db) but quiet enough for me plugged in an extension cord away (noise about the same as a hair dryer or an electric fan). Got it on sale for $449 vs $1199 for a Honda. Have used it for several years without a problem. 10db is half/twice as loud so a 48 db noise is probable around 60-70% that of a 52 db noise. You'll have to decide if that's worth $700. It wasn't for me.

It has been a few years since we were there the last time. No, just a bit of walking and checking out down the hill in town. Drinking coffee and smoking my pipe. One of our Covit getaways this past summer. No AC was needed. Pine Near RV Park. Pretty nice. We had one of their premium sites, in the shade.
