This is true,I did it 4 years ago.first go to [nick's teardrop trailer page] all the info is there. Now I pay $15 for 5 years not $235 a year! Here is what I did.1-Go to DMV ask for the paper work for perm trailer plate.2-Take paper work and teardrop to CHP office[may want to call and find best time]. 3-Take paper work to DMV[say you want a new title[best to have one]you will get a new plate on the spot.As I remember it cost less than $50.So far I have saved over a $1000.If any one wants to see some of the mods and addons that are not on the forum leave a note in the comments and I will post then.Nick should get the Teardrop medal of honor for the info.Any camping trailer under 16 feet long can get one.The dealers should know this stuff so if you are about to get a teardrop or tent trailer tell the dealer to do it for you.Happy teardroping to all.

In 2018 when I registered my used T@G trailer with the DMV, I got my permanent trailer identification (PTI) card. It cost me $493. The PTI is valid for five years. I do not know what the renewal will cost.
