T@G Roof Racks and fuel economy

We're heading out on Saturday for a 2 month journey to the West. Trying to decide whether or not to put on the Thule Roof Racks. The only real reason we would want them on is if there's a hail storm. The racks would hold the tarp away from the roof vent and solar panel. Has anyone compared their fuel economy with and without the racks?

I have a Yakima Skinny Warrior rack loaded with chairs and tables. I get the same terrible gas mileage with or without it.
