Important Maintenance Reminders!

With the next camping season approaching, nuCamp would like to remind all owners to inspect and (if necessary) repair the caulking at the bottom edge of their trailers, and possibly to windows installed in the roof. Failure to perform this important maintenance may result in water infiltration and damage.

Inspection and repair are detailed in the following documents. While these are T@B specific, application to the T@G should be similar.

Is there a particular caulk that is recommended?

I would use a good exterior silicone caulk that is available at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.

Silicone sealant sticks well to paint, not so well to aluminum, vinyl and fiberglass. Once applied it never stops shrinking and during the 2nd year after application will pull away fron the previously sealed area. I would use the industry standard Dicor Sealant made especially for rv's. Good very short video on caulking at http://www.dicor.com/videos-5/ Dicor is available through Amazon and other rv suppliers.

Looks like iDicor is only fo flat, horizontal surfaces.

Has anyone done this reseal on the front window of a T@G? I was going to do it this year since my camper is 2 years old. I looked at it last year and it looked fine. Do you really need to take off the window? It looks to me that you can just recaulk the top edge of the rubber seal and window frame without removing the window. It takes 2 people to get the window in/out so not sure it's worth the effort.

I would inspect the caulk first and if it is starting to break down, crack, etc. then go from there. I wouldn't mess with it or disturb it unless the caulk was cracking, there was visible shrinkage around the seams of the window or unless you had signs of water entry into the trailer. As the old addage goes, if it's not broken, don't fix it!

I asked NuCamp about what type of caulk to use and Creed in the service department recommend Polyurethane based caulking.

The gap on our doors both, is a least 1/4” under the plastic trim, did anybody ever caulk the space from the doors to the body of the trailer ? Dave

I wouldn’t caulk that area as you need to allow any residual water that might get into this area some way to exit and escape the trailer. You will most likely create a mess if you try applying caulk. If things are operating smoothly and you are not experiencing any water issues you should let it be.
