Replacing Coupler on TAG

For a number of reasons, I want to replace my Coupler/Hitch to a "Lock & Roll" off-road hitch. I went to my dealer (where I purchased my TAG) and talked to the service guy. He told me "no problem", gave me a price, and suggested that I purchase parts online. He told me to call him back once I get the parts and he'll schedule me in. So I ordered the parts and called him back. He now tells me that they would be unable to perform this work due to liability issues.

So now I'm searching for a place that can/will do the work for me. I'd like to go to a place that specializes in trailers/RVs, but do you think that any good welder/metal worker could do it "right"? I can imagine it's a pain to cut the welded one off, but welding the new one on should be standard stuff! Not sure if the alignment would be a hard task or is it standard stuff?

I know that everything is now a liability issue, but isn't this something that has to be done for repairs?

Anyone else have a coupler replaced?

I'd try and find a place that specializes in welding. Most RV stores only specialize in low liability extractions....Your billfold to their hand. I've done a few (not just my own) and with the proper tools, getting the old one off is a 15 minute job. There are many reputable places that do this sort of thing. Best place to start is a place that sells steel. They will either do it or can recommend someone who can...

Im in the Dallas, TX area. But I called a place called DFW Camper Corral/The Truck Accessory Store. They install trailer brakes, hitches and all types of accessories. They said if I bought the parts, they could definitely install them.

Perhaps you have such a place where you are.

I ended up going to a welding specialist. They had to expand the tongue for the new coupler to fit, it was longer and wider that original. They did great job and it looks great. It also set my jack back enough that I now can lower my tailgate while connected. So next project is now OBE!
