Filling water tank…

What’s your method of filling the water tank in your T@G once your at your camp spot with no water hook up?

I know some of you have some creative ideas, let’s here them, post pics.

Carrying a 5 gallon jug and trying to dump it in with a funnel is no fun. Even when it’s half full.

    Hrm... that’s what I do.

How about this. Put the jug on a table (or the galley counter) and using a hose, siphon it in.

Get a 6 gallon BLUE plastic kerosene can. They come with a screw-on pouring neck. Cut the insipid, useless, junky, perverse, unnecessary, ridiculous "safety" valve off so the filler neck is about 5-6" long. Take a black sharpie and write; "drinking water" on the outside. Fill the can, stuff the neck into the T@G fill port and let fly. I also drilled a vent into the top corner of mine and screwed in a brass vent-valve.

I’m the wimp. I use a clear tube (shorter pieces available at Lowe’s below their reels of clear tubing), stuck a good sized funnel into the tube and I pour water into the funnel from my 2.5 gallon water jugs.

Or, if you find a flexible neck funnel, you could forego the clear tube.

2.5 gallons is certainly easier on my back.

  • Cool. Just looking for a way to help my wife when I’m not around.

Definitely get her smaller jugs. I have 5 gallon, 4 gallon and 2.5 gallon, and I reach for the 2.5 gallon all the time. (It may take a while to fill with my 30 gallon fresh water tank.....I haven’t tried to fill this new one yet.)

  • And if you to get real creative and innovative they do make a small, inline pump that can be operated with a battery operated drill to increase the rate of water flow int the trailer. I use a 5-gallon container similarly as Verna does, with a good length of plastic hose attached to it. I set the water up on my bike rack, insert the hose into the FW fill point and let gravity take over and finish the job for me!

  • I got a 7 gallon container from Walmart and adapters to fit a 10’ water hose. (Reliance makes them I think) Put it on the roof and let gravity do the work.

  • @Perrytrails I know these convos are older, but I've found a cool hack I plan to use (@WilliamA you may like these):

  • I have a Front Runner rack and purchased this 45 liter tank to mount on top. I can attach a long hose to the tank and run that back to the fill spout. Gravity does the rest. Or, I'll use some of your ideas to get the water from this tank. That may be simpler.

I did that same hack for my square water can but put it in the top. I carry the can in my Jeep behind the front seat. When I need to refill my trailer tank, I use that. Works great summer and winter. Storing it in the Jeep, I've never had it freeze when camping down to 0 degrees F.

I like the looks and finish of the front runner setup but would not put it on the top of my trailer. Too heavy and hard to fill.

  • Filling is definitely the challenge. But, with it on top, I can use it as a shower during the summer. It will also mount on the rack on front of the trailer, but I lose gravity feed.
