Looking at the Proven Industries 2178A tongue lock. Anyone have any experience? They have an aluminum and stainless steel puck lock. Stainless is $100 more, $350 with shipping with steel puck lock, $100 less with aluminum billet puck lock. Thoughts anyone? Wheel locks vs tongue locks?

I have this one with the Abloy steel puck lock: Paid over $200

I also have a Proven Industry one that fits another trailer. Not the steel puck lock. Got it for under $180 a year or so ago.
Teardrops are in demand for theft. If a thief really wants it—they will get it. I just think these are good deterrents over the cheaper crap out there. It doesn’t help when YouTube shows the crocks “how to” videos on how to open any of these locks.
If your going with Proven Industries try these SHOP20 or SHOP30 discount codes. The 30 is for items over $300 and the 20 one is for items over $200. Good luck, I hope it works for you.
Just to show you I do have one on my T@G, here’s a pic. The chain wraps around with the hook ends going inside bottom of lock so can’t pull out. Fits nice and tight.
You may like to consider a Brahma wheel lock. You can easily steal a teardrop without using the hitch. Throw some chains through the frame and gone.

I really like my Proven Industries lock. If someone wants it enough to get through that system, they really want to spend some time getting it. I use that and a wheel lock when traveling or storing.

Question, is the coupler bolted on? In theory, couldn't someone just unbolt the coupler and put their own on? Are there any other measures people take besides the coupler lock and wheel locks?
You name it I think we've got it...the idea is to make them move on...if they really want it they'll get it..

Can't seem to find a price on those wheel locks without calling.

You don’t need to hitch the ball to steal a camper. I grew up around professional trailer thieves, you just back up to it wrap chains around it attached to the truck bumper and haul it somewheres that you can bust the lock.
Hence the value of the Brahma lock.

The Brahma Lock isn’t much good for the TaG Boondock as they only work with steel wheels. Customer Service just replied back to me: “We have not created a lock for Aluminum/Mag rims as of yet. We are hoping to design something but have not made any announcements or given dates yet. We are still in the prototype phase of the locks and can not give an eta for when these will be available.”
@csonni That seems strange, they have an adapter plate available that says it is for alloy wheels.
In the pictures it is clearly a T@B 320 Boondock as well, which has the same wheels as the T@G

I stand to be corrected. I connected with the wrong company. I thought Proven Industries manufactured the Brahma Wheel Lock, Here’s their reply. Hi Carl, you have contacted the incorrect company. We are not with Brahma. We are Proven Industries, please reach out to that company for assistance on the product in question. Thank you!
From what I can see the tire size for the Boondock is 235/75/15. The Brahman lock will accommodate tires up to 235. Does anyone know if the flat cover is required for the Boondock?
Just saw this: “ If you have aluminum alloy wheels, we recommend that you order this "flat" dish lug cover when ordering your lock. That way you will have everything you need when the lock arrives and will avoid paying extra shipping charges later. If you find that it was NOT required, you can return it via mail for a full $29 refund.”
So, I called support and they said there have been some issues with the wheel lock fittings some of the Boondock tires, as some have a width too wide for the top part of the lock. They made new stock of the Brahma locks to be a 1/2 inch wider to accommodate this issue with the NuCamp Boondock tires. Support said they had to do that as they're losing some business of TaB and TaG owners due to this problem. I'm gonna have to have the dealer measure it for us as we're not yet in possession of it. Support told me to hold off ordering until I'm sure the tires are no wider than 9.5 inches.
Just ordered the Proven Industries 2178A with a $20 off code. Now to find a wheel lock. The Brahma looks like the one but very pricey as well. I probably should've concentrated on spending more on the wheel lock rather than the tongue, but I'm not ready to commit myself to the wheel lock yet so I bit the bullet and went for the tongue lock. Not a lot of frame to latch onto on the T@G. The safety chains can be locked up inside the tongue lock.
You can just run a bike cable through each wheel and around the axle, will deter most. Also, taking those china bomb 235’s off and putting on 205/75-15 goodyears was a plus without losing much ground clearance.
Those bike cables can be snipped quite easily, no?
Yes, as can any cable if the thief really wants what you have.

As I remember bike cables are stainless and not all that easy to cut. We have sets of cables for our kayaks. They have survived hotels over night. Both on top of the 4Runner and laced to my trailered 12 electric boat.

Just got my Proven Industries 2178-A coupler lock for our T@G. Can't say I remember 10 lbs weighing so much. It's a beast. Should definitely be a good deterrent. I think I'll wait a bit on deciding on what wheel lock to buy. I'd like to stick to something not so bulky. Proven Industries doesn't yet make one for anything but standard steel wheels.
Beyond being a beast, does it fit well and is it easy to use? Looks like it fits well on Bob297's 2017 T@G, but wondering if it does with your new T@G. I've appreciated your posts as well as others above. Our T@G arrives next week so I'm looking into locking methods.

Our T@G is being delivered on March 8, so we haven't seen how well it fits yet.
Connected my Proven Industries coupler lock to our T@G for the first time today. I love it....except for the fact that the security chains won't fit up underneath to lock them as well. When I hook them around the piece that fits up under where the ball goes, I doesn't go up nearly enough for it to latch down. That kind of minimizes the security when you think about it. Disappointed, for sure.
Thats ok, thieves carry their own chains
Was concerned about whether the Brahma wheel lock would fit on the tire of Herbie, my 2021 Tag XL Boondock, but wanted to secure my investment so took a chance. Fits perfectly - no problem. Highly recommend!
