Finally made it out for our first overnight visiting Pikes Peak on the NE coast of Iowa. Super friendly neighbors and a nice site. Kind of commical that we were sandwhiched between to 30+ ft trailers.
Need to adjust my shelf mod a bit and add a place to hang my habit all in all it went really good. Highway mileage dropped to about 15mpg but I know of a lot of vehicles that are lucky to get that without towing.
We were there last summer. Folks at visitor center were friendly but the campground is small and spaces too close. Good hiking trails. We enjoyed the Effigy Mounds National Monument Park north of McGregor.
Thanks for the tip on the suction cups, saved me some time! I have the Hasika also, and it is great except for those worthless suction cups it comes with.
It is a Coleman Blue Mountain View Screendome Shelter Canopy. It is 12x12ft and 7.5ft high. It takes some practice and patience putting it up, but it works well. My wife loves it. All sides have screens with two "walls" (coverings for the screens) for privacy or if it is raining. We are able to fit the picnic table and cook underneath the canopy which is very helpful.
Made it to Yellowstone Lake State Park (WI) last week for our first bigger campout (4 night). My two Boy Scouts slept in the tent, except a stormy night in the back of my Subaru. All in all fantastic site with trees between the campsites. Brought along our Air Chair for this trip and it was a really nice place to sit.
"Fibber McGee's" mobile kitchen and laundry service!
The 3 of us finally got to do a weekend. It's something of an organizational nightmare but we had a great time and sharpened our chops on what to bring for 3. It's a bit like planning an Apollo mission. 3 people in about the same space as an Apollo command module.
We put the new awning stays to good use drying towels post-beach. As it turned out, we didn't need the extra cooler for edibles but it came in handy off-grid as a side table and refreshment locker. There turned out to be plenty of bunk space for mama, papa and Sprocket. (He's 9). Kathy was concerned about claustrophobic sleeping quarters but that turned out to not be a problem. She says she's ready for a more adventurous trip so we'll do a summer tour of the Badlands and Black Hills next.

@Lightningdon
How did you secure the awning to the trailer in this photo?

I bought a couple 3" tie down suction cups from Amazon, AIRHEAD, for under $15. The ones that come with the Hasika are worthless.

Rocky Gap this past weekend. Chilly and very windy. No campfire for us.
